Antarctica

Keegan was one of the week’s selections in our short story reading group and has been deemed the finest author we’ve read by universal acclaim. Her prose is perfect, her characterization subtle and deep, plots drum-tight, theme and mood woven effortlessly throughout.

She’s also best taken in small doses. These are bleak stories, mostly around damaged women and damaged children (and the intersection of the two in damaged girls) and the cruel and uncaring men in their lives. Life is suffering, punctuated with grim irony.

Keegan is still a fantastic author, and I’m glad to set this collection aside.
